Sébastien Loeb again wins Rally of Germany
Citroën driver Sébastien Loeb claimed victory in this year’s Rally of Germany – for the sixth time in succession. The Frenchman has thus written rally history: No other driver has succeeded in producing such a series of wins since the drivers’ world championship was first staged in 1979. Second place was taken by the Belgian François Duval (Citroen Xsara WRC) ahead of the Finnish drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Marcus Grönholm (both Ford Focus RS WRC 07). Ford driver Grönholm had a bit of bad luck. On the last stage he went off the road and damaged his chassis. Nevertheless, he was able to creep across the line after losing time. Apart from the classic stages through the Moselle vineyards and the Baumholder army proving ground, the 210,000 spectators were offered exciting rally sport along a new town circuit round the Porta Nigra in Trier.
